HUMAN PAPILLOMA VIRUS IMMUNIZATION CAMPAIGN – 30TH OCT. TO 3RD NOV. 2023

The Council Chairman of Ibeju Lekki Local Government, Hon Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, flagged off the Human Papilloma Virus Immunization Programme at the Elemoro Junior High School for girls between the ages of nine to fourteen years.

Speaking at the occasion, the Council Chairman represented by Supervisor for Health, Hon. Tajudeen Oniwonlu affirmed that indeed, the menace of cervical cancer is recently becoming rampant in young girls and women in the society. The Council boss gave kudos to the Lagos State Government in collaboration with the World Health Organization for the step taken for introducing the Human Papilloma Virus Programme in the state.

Hon. Olowa implored parents and guardians to submit their wards/children for this life saving vaccine at designated centres which are hospitals, health centres, schools, churches, mosques, market and other posts for future protection from cervical cancer.

The Human Papilloma Virus is the most common sexually transmitted infection (STI) in the society. As it is spread through sexual intercourse as the infection can be passed to someone even when they have no signs of the symptoms.

The programme is expected to run from Monday 30th October to Friday, 3rd November, 2023, 7:00am to 8:00am daily.

Also present are the Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Shosanya and other health personnel.
